With Typhoon “Bebejia” intensifying, urban drainage systems face unprecedented challenges. The relentless winds and torrential rains typical of such storms stress urban infrastructure to its limits. Rapid and extreme precipitation can quickly lead to road waterlogging and frequent flooding, severely disrupting traffic and daily life while overwhelming drainage systems. This often results in blocked pipes and heightened flood risks, posing serious threats to the city’s safety and functionality.
Low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable, with floods not only complicating flood management but also risking irreversible damage to underground infrastructure and building foundations. The overall safety and operational integrity of urban environments are directly jeopardized.
High-Efficiency Pumps and Valves: The Unsung Heroes of Flood Control
In these dire conditions, high-efficiency pumps and valves emerge as the critical “secret weapons” for effective flood management. These advanced systems are designed to respond rapidly and operate with exceptional efficiency, greatly enhancing the capacity of drainage systems to handle intense rainfall. By mitigating waterlogging and ensuring smooth urban drainage, these technologies create a robust defense against flooding.
Several standout products have proven their worth in real-world scenarios, successfully combating the effects of numerous typhoons and setting benchmarks for flood control.
Grundfos Super-Large Integrated Pump Gate in Guangzhou
In Guangzhou, frequent waterlogging issues prompted Grundfos to develop a tailored solution in 2020. The company installed a 3-gate, 6-pump Shixi® integrated pump gate at the Guanhu Pump Station. This system is engineered to manage a 24-hour rainstorm event expected once every 20 years. Each pump handles 3.67 cubic meters per second, combining for a total drainage capacity of 22 cubic meters per second. This setup not only saves space but also integrates functions such as opening and closing mechanisms, pumping systems, and sewage interception, enhancing both efficiency and flood control capabilities.
Kaiquan’s Large Axial Flow Pumps Protect Jingdezhen
Jingdezhen, renowned for its historical significance and low-lying terrain, has faced severe flood risks, particularly in the Huangnitou area. In 2021 alone, the region experienced seven significant floods, threatening local safety and property. To address these challenges, Kaiquan deployed large axial flow pumps that provide critical support for flood management, ensuring the city’s resilience during high-water events.
These innovations highlight the pivotal role that advanced pump and valve technologies play in safeguarding urban environments from the growing impacts of extreme weather events.
Kaiquan and Wilo: Pioneering Solutions for Urban Flood Management
Kaiquan’s Advanced Flood Control in Jingdezhen
Kaiquan Company has delivered cutting-edge flood management solutions to address the complex water conditions in Jingdezhen’s Huangnitou area. By customizing and deploying three 2300ZLQ20-5.04 vertical axial flow pumps and two 1200ZLB-100 models, Kaiquan has significantly bolstered the region’s drainage capabilities. With individual power outputs of 1600kW and 355kW, respectively, and a total system drainage capacity of 63.2 cubic meters per second, these pumps are engineered to handle substantial water volumes. The total installed power of 5510kW ensures that the Huangnitou area is well-protected against flood risks. This robust system has earned widespread acclaim from both local government and residents for its exceptional performance and reliability.
Wilo’s Integrated Pump Station: Enhancing Urban Infrastructure
In Beijing’s Tongzhou District, Wilo has addressed the persistent water accumulation issues at the Keyin Interchange with innovative solutions. The company installed three parallel prefabricated pump stations, each designed for high efficiency and compactness. These stations effectively mitigate waterlogging in the bridge area during the rainy season, significantly improving traffic conditions on the Beijing-Tianjin Highway.
Each station features a total design displacement capacity of 216,000 tons per day. The system comprises outer cylinders with a diameter of 3.8 meters and a height of about 10.8 meters, interconnected by DN800 pipes. Inside each cylinder are two German-imported submersible sewage pumps (90KW, 1500m³/h at 12.8m) with oil-cooled motors. This setup allows for lower operating liquid levels, more thorough drainage, and rapid response to heavy rainfall, efficiently managing large volumes of water.
